Per Mertesacker has bagged the next setback as assistant coach for Arsenal in the English Premier League. As assistant to interim coach Freddie Ljungberg, the former international Brighton & Hove defeated Albion 1: 2 (0: 1) with the Londoners.

Adam Webster (36) and Neal Maupay (80.) scored for victory. Only after the break had Arsenal achieved thanks to a slight increase in the meanwhile replacement from Alexandre Lacazette (50th). Mertesacker's world champion colleague Mesut Özil stood just like the former Leverkusen Bernd Leno in the eleven starts.

In the debut of the two former pros on the bench, the Gunners had not gone beyond a draw in relegation candidate Norwich City (2: 2). Ljungberg and Mertesacker came in last week after London's Unai Emery fired after Eintracht Frankfurt's 2-1 draw in the Europa League.
