"Before the best you have to be patient" - SPANISH FOOTBALL 1

Diego Simeone was noted at the press conference both the effort and the joy of being in a final that in many moments Atletico had far away. The Argentine coach of the mattress team recognized that Barcelona was superior: “We did a tough match, we started well but they were superior, they took us to play in our area. We always have a game plan, but the opponent was very good.”

Simeone also praised Messi’s match: “Messi had one more step and the team was accompanying him. We took refuge defending him well, but we couldn’t get out of the pressure that Barcelona put on.”

The key

“We talked at rest, how to get out of the pressure”

For the Argentine coach it was key as his team came out in the second half: “We talk at halftime about how to get out of that pressure. That goal (Koke’s) gave us energy but they responded well.”

Simeone also decisively believes the departure of Marcos Llorente: “The change of Llorente and the position of Correa gave us more possibilities in attack. From there the team looked better, it was seen that if we tied, we won.”

For Simeone, “with the best teams like Barca, Madrid, City, you have to be patient. We deserved the pass.”

The final

Atletico will have one less day’s rest

On the final and true to his Simeone style healed in health: “Now we have to play a final. Madrid made a fantastic match. With the absence of Bale and Benzema they have made a very nice game. The five midfielders are able to score goals and play to win. They came to play the final and passed just right. It’s no excuse to have one day less to rest.”
