From Gameiro to Nzonzi to Garay: What does OL need in the market? – Ligue 1 2019-2020 – Football – FRENCH FOOTBALL

by: Adam Smith

LIGUE 1 – Despite long-term losses from Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Memphis Depay, OL has yet to draw a line back for his season. The weakness of Ligue 1 may still allow you to expect to hang a strapontine in C1 for next year. As long as the winter market comes to help a wobbly workforce.

Left side

The need : A solid support. In hiring Youssouf Koné as Ferland Mendy’s replacement, OL made a mistake. Former Lillois is slow to show the reach of his talent and managed to revive a perditous Maral in this position. If Lyon’s offensive animation is so weak, it’s also because the movements in the aisles are relatively weak.

Names quoted In: Lucas Digne, Ricardo Rodriguez

Our opinion : The left side post does not appear to be an emergency in the OL. However, in Toulouse, it is… Maxwel Cornet who held this position. It’s hard to see a long-term solution. But the rarity of the desired profile does not correspond to the winter market, more done diy than the actual input.

Recovering midfielder

The need : Find an alternative to Lucas Tousart. The former Valenciennes player has become indispensable for OL this season only because he is the only scavenger on the list. Thiago Mendes being considered a relay player by Rudi Garcia, we must find a solution to blow or, better, compete with Tousart in his position.

Names quoted In: Adrien Rabiot, Steven Nzonzi

Our opinion : The idea of Rabiot might have been excellent, but you won’t see the light of day. The Nzonzi track has the merit of being affordable and filling the profile perfectly. An element of experience could also bring serenity to an environment that is terribly flawed.

Creative environment

The need Ideas and talent. Without Depay and Queen Adelaide, the OL lost two X factors, two game accelerators. Now Houssem Aouar seems terribly lonely. It remains to be seen which player to look for: rather an extreme? An axial midfielder capable of playing on the sidelines? A backup attacker?

Names quoted In: Thomas Lemar, Julian Draxler, Hatem Ben Arfa

Our opinion : If the Ben Arfa Idea is tempting, it seems too risky in Lyon’s current situation. On the other hand, the worker and player profiles on the sides of Lemar or Draxler, if unsuccessful, resemble what the OL needs most. On the left, there are no specialists at the club, while on the right Bertrand Traoré and Maxwel Cornet have already shown their limits. Be careful, too, not to stack expensive players at a time when an immense talent (Cherki) seems to be on the verge of hatching.

Top forward

The need : With Memphis Depay, it is a creative but above all ultra-decisive element that OL is private about. To score, Moussa Dembélé seems fine on his own. And Dutch’s hybrid profile makes the search more complicated. From the first profiles explored, it seems that this is a high-tech attacker who is looking for it. To finally evolve into two points? That’s the point…

Names quoted In: Kevin Gameiro, Olivier Giroud

Our opinion : With Dembélé around, it is impossible to imagine the landing of Giroud since the profiles are similar. In addition to being realistic, Gameiro’s case offers above all the possibility to align a pair of ultra-complementary attackers on paper. And then, opportunities like Gameiro on the market, the OL won’t have fifty in this winter market …
