Relegation-backing Watford has broken Liverpool’s historic winning streak with Jurgen Klopp in the English Premier League. After 18 wins, the Reds and their German coach lost 0-3 (0-0) to the Hornets and suffered their first defeat of the season.
On Monday, league leaders set the record for Manchester City, who also won 18 in a row between August and December 2017. The fact that it didn’t work with the record alone is “not really” disappointing for Klopp.
“I’m not surprised by the performance – it would mean I’d never seen anything like it. But I’ve seen something like this many times,” Klopp said, but stressed: “I think 0:3 is a bit too much.” Ismaila Sarr scored the first two goals of the outsider (54th/60th). Troy Deeney (72nd) made it 3-0.
Liverpool have lost a Premier League game for the first time since 3 January 2019 (1-2 at Manchester City) and have not lost 44 in a row. The Reds, who are 22 points ahead of ManCity at the top of the standings, are still close to winning the championship since 1990. A maximum of four wins in ten games is still missing.
This leaves Arsenal as the only club to have become unbeaten in the Premier League. The so-called “Invincibles” won the title in 2003/2004. The Gunners have already reacted on Twitter.
