Sadio Mane handed Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool their 18th consecutive Premier League win. The Senegalese scored against surprisingly defensive relegation candidate West Ham United at Anfield Road on Monday night to make it 3-2 (1-1) after a 1-2 draw.
Liverpool lost points for the last time in the league at Manchester United (1-1) on 20 October. The last defeat was on 3 January 2019 (1-2 at Manchester City).
Monday night’s home win was also the Reds’ 21st straight home win. In the history of the English Premier League, only Liverpool players themselves managed to do so between January and December 1972 under Bill Shankly.
The first league title since 1990 is close for the Reds, who have a staggering 22-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the table. A maximum of four wins in 11 games is still missing.
The duel with the Hammers was a surprisingly difficult job at the end of the 27th day of the match. The Londoners immediately fought back for 1-0 through Georginio Wijnaldum (9th) through Issa Diop (12th). Pablo Fornals (55′) even put West Ham in the lead, but the Champions League winner fought back: Mohamed Salah (68th) and Mane (81st) put the lead again.
