Premier League: Liverpool win 4-0 at Leicester City - ENGLISH FOOTBALL 1

Liverpool remain unbeaten for their 35th consecutive league game. Roberto Firmino scored in the 31st and 74th minutes of the match in Leicester,111th and 74th minute, James Milner scored a minute after his substitution by a trade penalty (71st minute) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (78th) for Jurgen Klopp’s team.

That leaves Liverpool 13 points ahead of Leicester in the Premier League, which remains second in the table despite just one point from their past three games. That could change on Friday night when third-placed Manchester City take on Wolverhampton (8.45pm, TV: Sky).

After just a few minutes, a lead for Liverpool would not have been a surprise. Alexander-Arnold (1st), Sadio Mané (2nd and 5th) and Mohamed Salah (6th) had first good chances for the visitors. The hosts struggled with Liverpool’s high pressing, especially in the first 20 minutes. Salah (11th) and Jordan Henderson (15th) missed further opportunities to lead.

When Leicester had overplayed the Liverpool pressing, it became quite dangerous in the beginning. But Brendan Rodgers’ team did not want to pass the last or penultimate pass. Leicester went into the break without a shot on goal.

Liverpool miss the double

Roberto Firmino’s header after a sharply kicked flank from Alexander-Arnold then fell out of one of the situations in which Leicester could not decisively free themselves from the defensive line. A minute later Mané could have made it 2-0, but the Senegalese failed to get past goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel from just under six yards.

Leicester started the second half with more forward pressure but continued to score without scoring. The hosts helped with the chances for Liverpool. After a ball loss by Dennis Praet at his own corner flag, Andrew Robertson came to the flank, which Roberto Firmino narrowly missed in the middle (55th).

After the penalty goal by Milner the game was decided, but the visitors still acted full forward and trailed by Roberto Firmino’s second goal and Alexander-Arnold’s second goal of the season.
