Red Bull Salzburg meets Eintracht Frankfurt in the sixteenth final, LASK meets AZ Alkmaar – Transgaming

by: Adam Smith

Master Red Bull Salzburg is facing a reunion with old acquaintances in February. Salzburg face Eintracht Frankfurt in the first knockout round of the Europa League with their ex-coach Adi Hütter. Martin Hinteregger, a former Salzburg kicker, is also active for the German Bundesliga team. LASK is dealing with AZ Alkmaar, revealed a draw Monday in Nyon.

Match dates for the sixteenth final are February 20 and 27. Both ÖFB representatives compete first abroad and play the decisive second stage at home. Frankfurt is currently in twelfth place in the table in Germany, while Alkmaar is tied for points with leader Ajax Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Red Bull Salzburg: Reunion with Adi Hütter

Hütter had led Salzburg to double the championship title and cup victory in the 2014/15 season. After three years with Young Boys Bern, hired Vorarlberg 2018 in Frankfurt. With Eintracht he reached the Europa League semi-finals last year. Defender Hinteregger, who moved to Germany after his first professional years in Salzburg in 2016, enjoys some of the cult status in Frankfurt. In the first stage against Salzburg, Carinthia is missing due to a yellow card suspension.

Salzburg and Frankfurt also have a common past in the European Cup. On the way to the UEFA Cup Final in 1994, Salzburg eliminated Eintracht in the quarterfinals. Hütter scored the goal for Salzburg in the 1-0 home win in Vienna. After a 0: 1 in the second stage, Salzburg keeper Otto Konrad became a penalty.

LASK opponents Alkmaar in top form

LASK meets Alkmaar for the first time. The Linz team has already had good experiences with a Dutch representative this season. Against PSV Eindhoven, the upper Austrians reached 0-0 in the group stage. At home it was a celebrated 4-1 home victory. However, Alkmaar is in top form: the club is currently in second place in the Eredivisie – but tied with champions and leaders Ajax Amsterdam.
