Even without the new team managers Carlo Ancelotti and Mikel Arteta, Everton and Arsenal separated goallessly in the English Premier League. On Saturday, the Toffees announced the signing of former Bayern coach Ancelotti (most recently SSC Naples).

Ancelotti will make his debut on Everton’s bench to replace Portuguese Marco Silva, who was sacked at the start of the month, on Boxing Day (26 December) against Burnley.

Arteta takes up his post on Sunday

Arteta, who has been appointed as Arsenal’s new head coach since Friday, will take up his new post on Sunday. On Saturday at Liverpool, interim coach Freddie Ljungberg and assistant Per Mertesacker were still on the bench.

The Gunners from London are ninth in the table with 23 points after winning the points. Everton (19) are 15th. Goalkeeper Bernd Leno was in the Arsenal starting eleven, while Rio world champion Mesut Özil was unavailable due to a foot injury. The 2014 World Cup champion Shkodran Mustafi sat on the bench.

On Saturday night, Manchester City will face second-placed Leicester City in the top-flight match at home (from 6.30pm in the live ticker).
